"I saw the Messenger of Allah during his Hajj, on the Day of 'Arafah. He was upon his camel Al-Qaswa, giving a Khutbah, so he said: 'O people! Indeed, I have left among you, that which if you hold fast to it, you shall not go astray:1 The Book of Allah and my family, the Ahlul-Bayt (people of my house).'"

Note: 1. Separating from the Quran and the Ahlulbayt leads one to go astray, or enter into misguidance from the path of Allah swt.

O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allāh will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allāh does not guide the disbelieving people.
O Messenger, convey all that has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then, you have not conveyed His message (at all). And Allah shall protect you from the people. Surely, Allah does not take the disbelieving people to the right path.

‘Ali adjured the people at ar-Rahbah, saying: Whoever heard the messenger of Allah (ﷺ) speak on the day of Ghadeer Khumm, let him stand up. And (of the people) around Sa’eed, six men stood up, and (of the people) around Zaid, six men stood up, and they testified that they had heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say to ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) on the day of Ghadeer Khumm. “Isn`t it Allah Who is closer to the believers?” They said: Yes. He said: `O Allah, if I am a person`s mawla then ‘Ali is also his mawla; O Allah, take as friends those who take him as a friend, and take as enemies those who take him as an enemy.”

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Indeed, I am leaving among you, that which if you hold fast to them, you shall not be misguided after me.1 One of them is greater than the other: The Book of Allah is a rope extended from the sky to the earth, and my family - the Ahlulbayt - and they shall not split until they meet at the Hawd,2 so look at how you deal with them after me."

Note: 1. It is incumbant to "hold fast" to both of "them" for you to not go astray.
2. The fact that they will not separate until the day of judgement, means they are the path of truth and guidance after the Prophet. If one takes the Quran as infallible, then the fact that the Ahlulbayt does not split from the Quran, implies the Ahlulbayt too are infallible, as confirmed by Quran 33:33

that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) dispatched an army and he put 'Ali bin Abi Talib in charge of it. He left on the expedition and he entered upon a female slave. So four of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) scolded him, and they made a pact saying: "[If] we meet the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) we will inform him of what 'Ali did." When the Muslims returned from the journey, they would begin with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and give him Salam, then they would go to their homes. So when the expedition arrived, they gave Salam to the Prophet (ﷺ), and one of the four stood saying: "O Messenger of Allah! Do you see that 'Ali bin Abi Talib did such and such." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned away from him. Then the second one stood and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the third stood before him, and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the fourth stood and said as they had said. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) faced him, and the anger was visible on his face, he said: "What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! Indeed 'Ali is from me, and I am from him, and he is the wali of every believer after me."

Note: "And he is your wali after me" clearly restricts wilayat to him and only him. Support, friendship, love, and the like are clearly not confined to one single person. As such it would then exclude the wives and other companions of the Prophet (ﷺ).

The Prophet is worthier as a guardian of the believers than they are of themselves, and his spouses are(as) mothers to them. And blood relatives are worthier than the(other) believers or the immigrants1as heirs of one another according to Allah’s Scripture—except that youpl may do an upright act to your allies; that has been inscribed in the Scripture.
The Prophet has more authority over the believers than themselves. His wives are their mothers. The relatives are closer to each other, according to the Book of God, than the believers and the emigrants. However, you may show kindness to your guardians. This also is written in the Book.
The Prophet has a greater claim on the faithful than they have on themselves, and his wives are (as) their mothers; and the possessors of relationship have the better claim in the ordinance of Allah to inheritance, one with respect to another, than (other) believers, and (than) those who have fled (their homes), except that you do some good to your friends; this is written in the Book.

O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion - Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, strong against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.
